Some Race Photos

I am still sorting the many photos that my awesome support took during the race, and I will post a link to them soon. But in the meantime, I thought I would put a few pics online for you all to enjoy!

Teams hiking up Tayton ridge - we had already passed the Panorama Summit, and it was off to the summit of Mount Goldie.

The view of a gorgeous glacial lake on the way up Goldie.

Another great view of Mount Goldie - it was a tough, but fun scamble up, and a very slippery and rocky run down!

A very encouraging sign as we left the Panorama terrain and headed into the backcountry!

The awesome tyrlean traverse that we got to do accross the Toby River - it is a good thing that I am not afraid of heights!

We got to paddle through these amazing wetlands - it was a long paddle, but gorgeous (and somewhat down river!!)

Finally Home

The Sea2Summit Race is finally over - THANK GOD!! We are home from Panorama safe and sound and I get to begin the fun process of sorting, cleaning and washing my gear.

It was great to be back racing in a Sea2Summit race... the races are fun and social, but incredibly challenging - the perfect mix. It was so good to see Dean Payne (the race director) again - and it was amazing to have him cheering me on the whole time!

The race was incredible. It was one of the hardest things that I have ever done. Racing for over 9 hours a day (for two of the three days) was hard to do solo. There were so many times during the race that I could not imagine going any further, but I pushed on, one step at a time and finished strong. I place 2nd in the solo female category and 5th out of nine racers in the solo division. It was hard to compete against the teams of 2 and 4 because they just smoked us solo racers on the paddle section. Twice the man power in very fast double kayaks are hard to keep up to!!

I will post a long race report in the next day or so... now I need to do more laundry and go to bed!

It was hard to keep the blog updated during the race, since I finished each day pretty late and was fairly braindead by then. But I will post some wicked pictures along with my race report, so stay tuned.

Again, a huge thanks goes out to Red Resort for the wicked Support Vehicle and sponsorship. Many of the racers and supporters were keen to learn more about this incredible resort, so hopfully we will see some of them out here this winter.

My new Jamis bike got its big test this past weekend and it was awesome. It was light, I had no mechanical issues and I could rip on the bike sections... so THANK YOU JAMIS!

Here is a picture of Keelan and a buddy fine tuning my bike before my next big bike leg!! Thanks guys!

Anyways, stay tuned for more info and pictures.

I am proud to have pushed through the three days to come second out of four women... and to have come in ahead of many other teams as well!

Off to bed I go!
Killerk.

Sea 2 Summit Update

Hi everyone, this is Killer Kailey’s Support Team checking in with a race report on Saturday night.

After a hard first day of biking and hiking, Killer climbed over 5000 vertical feet (over 10,000 ascended and descended). She ended the day in second place, 11 minutes behind a very strong female competitor who is a mountain bike instructor and avid hiker (and super nice). Kailey’s total time for the day was 4 hours and 42 minutes. She averaged 10.4 km/hour where the leader averaged 10.5. That’s TIGHT!

The second day brought far more pain as Killer started with a 32 km paddle down the beautiful Windemere Valley on Lake Windemere (go figure). After enduring –trust me- painful blisters from the paddle, Kailey saddled up for a quick bike leg and headed towards the next transition point where she would trade her bike in for trekking poles. This next hike took her back to the finish line at Panorama approx. 5 hours and much elevation later. Kailey also mentioned the worst bonk of her career. I can only imagine the toll on your body after mashing what many people consider a vacation into a mere 22 hours. As I write this, Killer is getting a much needed massage and assures everyone that she will post a more detailed account of the race as soon as she’s able to. In the meantime, it will be me, Support, letting you know how things are. In total, today took 9.5 hours total (still in second place) for our Killer athlete to complete.

Thanks to Red Resort for the Redmobile - it has provided a huge service in many ways.

I am proud and exited to announce that Killerkailey.com and Red Resort have formed a sponsorship for the 2006 Adventure Racing Season. Red Resort is the main reason that I moved to Rossland – hands down the best skiing in North America! Steep, deep weightless powder and extreme terrain. The best part of it is that there are NO CROWDS, no lift lines, just fresh tracks to be had all over the mountain. The summers are almost as good as the winters – with wicked, endless mountain biking and trail running trails that circle around Rossland and Red.

Watch for me at the Sea2Summit races… this weekend in Panorama and in September in Whistler. I will be dressed in awesome Red logo wear and will have the sexiest support vehicle out there – the Red Mobile – a swanked up Nissan Pathfinder – what could be better? If you are at the race, come check us out and get some great information on Red. If you see this online – come to Rossland and Red Resort and discover the magic of the area for yourselves.
